You ever find yourself staring at your monitor for way too long — scrolling forums, digging through tabs, or just wasting time online until your eyes feel fried? I’ve definitely been there. After hours of bright screens and random browsing, it’s easy to lose focus and end up with sore eyes and a headache the next day.

One goofy little trick I started using is something I call a fullscreen black screen tool. Whenever I feel overwhelmed by open windows or visual noise — or just need a quick digital breather — I switch to a plain black screen for a minute or two. No icons, no text, no colors — just black.

It sounds silly, but giving your eyes a sudden break from all that light and clutter actually feels surprisingly good. It helps reset your attention and makes it easier to jump back into whatever you were doing without squinting at every little detail.

If you’re in front of a screen a lot — whether you’re ranting here, gaming there, or just procrastinating everywhere — try using a fullscreen black screen tool next time your eyes start begging for mercy. It’s probably the laziest “eye exercise” you’ll ever do, and it might help more than you expect.
